Los pedidos de nuevas construcciones llevarán a MSC más allá de Maersk en las clasificaciones de líneas.

Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), ha comentado que la unidad de arrendamiento de China Merchants Bank CMB financial Leasing (CMBFL), ha hecho un pedido de dos barcos de 16.000 Teu para lograr un arrendamiento de sus unidades a  MSC que sea a largo plazo.

MSC recibió un financiamiento de más de 10 barcos por parte de CMB y con esto forjo una relación de profunda amistad para lograr que la empresa de línea suizo-italiano puede acercarse a la zona de privilegio donde esta ubicado Maersk entre los portacontenedores. Liu Hui, quien es el jefe de la contabilidad de GSI comenta que se ha pedida el primer astillero de CMBFL y dicha construcción no se relevara aun, pero supone que será el más alto que precio unitario de pedidos anteriores, por cuanto MSC ya habría adquirido algunas unidades anteriormente que eran de 116,9 millones de dólares.

Para la empresa GSI será su primera incursión en construir barcos de tipo portacontenedores, ya que anteriormente ellos solo se dedicaban a las construcciones de petroleros, plataformas autoelevadores sumergibles y buques ro-ro, y se atreven a incursionar en este sector por la débil demanda del petróleo y esto es causado por los bajos precios del petróleo. Con todo esto MSC ahora tiene 4,08 millones de Teu en capacidad operativa, de 197 barcos de propiedad y 416 de barcos fletados, y Alphaliner dice que hay 47 barcos, por 852,020 Teu, en pedido.

Durante todo este tiempo MSC ha sido el más activo en poder comprar barcos de segunda mano, unos 60 barcos comprados desde septiembre pasado, en junio la empresa ordenó cuatro barcos de 24.200 Teu, divididos a partes iguales entre dos astilleros CSSC, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding y Jiangnan Shipyard.
