ATA

Actual Time of Arrival. This indicator is displayed after the arrival of the ship at the harbour of destination.

ATS

Actual Time of Shipping. This indicator is displayed after the departure of the ship.

B/L

Bill of Loading: confirmation that the goods are on board of a ship

BAF

Bunker Adjustment Fee: when the fuel prices are subject to considerable price fluctuations, the shipping company will calculate a bunker surcharge to compensate the risks of price fluctuations

CAF

Currency Adjustment Factor: in case the freight is payable in foreign currency and if those currency are subject to considerable currency fluctuations, the shipping company sometimes calculates a currency surcharge to compensate the risks of currency fluctuations.

DGD

Dangerous Goods Declaration: this declaration has to be provided by the shipper to the shipping company in conform accordance to the IMDG-rules. Based on these data, the shipping company will determine if the goods can be accepted for transport over sea. If the data are not provided within time and in a correct way, the shipping company can refuse the cargo.

DO

Delivery Order: the receiver in the harbour of destination, is not allowed to receive the goods without this document.

DV

Dry Van, or general purpose: the normal 20Ft and 40Ft containers.

ETA

Estimated Time of Arrival: expected date/time of arrival in the harbour of destination.

ETD

Estimated Time of Departure: expected date/time of departure in the harbour of departure.

ETS

Less than Container Load: the transporter / shipping company, combines/ bundles different smaller parties, until he has enough to fill 1 container.

Material Safety Data Sheet: this sheet has been made up for the experts and it contains information to properly assess the risks related to a preparation.

CIP

Carriage and Insurance Paid To: freight free inclusive Insurance to. The seller has the same obligations as in case of CPT and the additional obligation to conclude a freight transport insurance.

CPT

Carriage Paid To: Freight free to. The seller pays the freight price for the transport of the goods to the determined destination.

DDP

Delivered Duty Paid: carriage free inclusive rights. The seller has to respect his delivery obligations. This means he has to deliver the goods at the agreed upon location of the importing country. Costs for the rights, taxes and other levies related to cleared goods, have to be paid for by the seller.

DDU

Delivered Duty Unpaid . The seller has to respect his delivery obligations. This means he has to deliver the goods at the agreed upon location of the importing country. Costs regarding customs formalities, import duties and taxes, have to be paid for by the receiver.

EXW

Ex Works: AF Factory. The seller delivers the goods at the disposal of the buyer, who can collect them in the seller his work place.

FAS

Free Alongside Ship. The seller makes sure that the goods, which are being cleared, are delivered alongside the ship.

FCA

Free Carrier: freight free till transporter. The seller delivers the cleared goods and carries them over to the buyer at location, as determined by the buyer or at the agreed upon point.

FOB

Free On Board. The buyer has to cover the costs after the goods have been loaded on the ship. All costs before this stage, are to be paid for by the seller.
